The modern educational system derived its students from Quran schools and Al-Azhar at its emergence, as there were committees that roam the country to visit Quran schools and select distinctive students to join modern schools, distinctive students of Al-Azhar were also selected to join high schools at their establishment, but rather some were lucky to join the mission dispatched by Mohammed to study in France.
This organization did not last for long; in 1841the Egyptian Ottoman settlement has been made to set limits for the political project that fondled Mohamed Ali's dreams, to limit the army's size, and to restrict the authority of the state in economy management. Therefore, the state became in no need to more employees, rather it demobilized large number of soldiers and officers, thus, Mohamed Ali decided to reconsider the educational system, putting the new conditions in mind.
Mansoura University was founded in 1972 in Mansoura city, Egypt. Mansoura is located at the middle of the Nile Delta in Egypt. It is one of the biggest Egyptian universities and has contributed much to the cultural and scientific life in Mansoura and Egypt.
The faculty of medicine was founded in 1962 as a branch of Cairo University. In 1972, a presidential decree announced the establishment of the University under the name "East Delta University". Later on, its name was changed to Mansoura University in 1973.
Ain Shams University is the third oldest university in Egypt. It was established in July, 1950 as Ibrahim Pasha University. It cooperated with the other two universities; Cairo University (Foaad I Pasha University) and Alexandria University (Farouk I Pasha University)
After the 23rd July, 1952 Revolution, it was suggested that the three universities should be named after historical places in Egypt. Thus in 21st February, 1954, the name of the university turned to Heliopolis and the same year it is changed to be Ain Shams ‘Eye of the Sun’ (its current name), the Arabic translation of Heliopolis or Own. Own University was established 5000 years ago. It was really famous for being a cultural center for knowledge especially Astrology, Engineering and Medicine. Amhotob was one of the tutors in that university. He was the main parson, minister and designer who designed the first stone architectural building known as Zuser in 2700 BC.

The university study system is divided into two semesters with the exception of the Faculty of Medicine, where the study period for each class is 15-weeks , followed by an exam at the end of it, the general result of the grade will be at the end of the school year .
The number of graduates since the start of the study in Beni Suef faculties till 2007 is 62321 graduates from various faculties and institutes .
In 1938, the nucleus of the Alexandria University (formerly known as Farouk University) had its beginning in the form of two faculties of Fouad the First University. These were the faculties of Arts and Law. The faculty of Engineering was then established in 1941.
In the light of the need for developing more disciplines for higher learning and with a view towards meeting the need of the people of Alexandria, Alexandria University became a separate entity in August 1942 with four additional faculties: Science, Commerce, Medicine and Agriculture.
In 1952, it became "Alexandria University". Since then, the University witnessed growth and expansion in several fields: the number of Faculties and high institutes increased to 22.
Believing in its role towards Arab and African countries, Alexandria University established in 1960 in Beirut, Lebanon, "Beirut Arab University" which is run and supervised by educational and administrative cadres from Alexandria University.
Assiut University is located in the capital city of Assiut governorate in Upper Egypt. Assiut is the largest city in Upper Egypt and lies about 375 Kilometers south of Cairo. The total area of the governorate covers 1553 square kilometers, of which the city of Assiut occupies around 23 sq Km. With such an area, Assiut comes first among upper Egyptian capital cities.
